Beginning Saturday, February 4th, The Paddleboard Company is excited to host a 6 week SUP race point series.  This will be a fun and informal event, welcoming anyone and everyone from seasoned racers to those who want to give their first SUP race a try.  Racers will meet at Coleman Beach in Morro Bay at 8:30am on Saturday morning for a brief explanation of the rules and course before the race begins at 9am.  During that time the ‘course of the week’ will be announced.  An awards ceremony will take place after the last race and those who have accrued the most points during the six weeks will podium 1st-5th place.  It is not necessary to attend all 6 races.  Listed below are the guidelines and rules.  If you have any questions please give the shop a call at 805-225-5555 or email Nikki@ThePaddleboardCompany.com, otherwise we’ll see you there!

  • How points are calculated: Each week 10 points will be given for 1st place in each category down to 1 point for 10th place.  If the racer decides to paddle a different size board for any race, those points will be applied to the category they are racing that week.
  • All racers will start at the same time, from the same place and paddle the same course, with the exception of the kids (12 & under) who will paddle a short 1/4-1/2 mile course close to shore with extra supervision on the water.  Kids 12 & under are required to wear a coast guard approved life jacket that fits properly.

  • Coast Guard approved PFD’s are mandatory (on board, waist belt or jacket) and we highly recommend wearing a coil leash.  No PFD, no racing.
  • If for any reason there is a protest the cost will be $25 to the racer filing the complaint, to be refunded if the outcome of the dispute is in their favor.
  • If there is a tie in any category at the end of the point series, a tie-breaker will be determined.
  • Failure to complete the course as outlined by race director will result in a DNF.
  • Each racer will be required to fill out a liability waiver at their first race and we recommend letting staff/race director know if there are any adverse medical conditions in case of emergency.
